  • Considering Switch(R)ing ;)

Last friday Armin gave us in the office a short tour of some nice and some sweet and some simply hot things you can do with your Mac (on his Powerbook) which made me (once again) think about switching from a Linux-based to a MacOSX-based notebook. From what I've seen MacOS is like the perfect combination of userfriendlyness and hackability. But there are currently two things that are holding me back:

Is it just me or is bloglines more or less broken currently? In the overview listing in the left frame there are tons of updates weblogs but most of the times when I actually want to see these new items, there are none. I already tried playing around with the "Display items within last ... " option but without any success :(

First of all: Sorry, but I wasn't able to post my comments about the last 2 days of the EuroOSCON as promised in my previous post, but I was all the time on the hunt for some handkerchief replacement since I had none left anymore and the air condition nearly killed me :-?

  • First 2 days in Amsterdam

Posted on Oct. 19, 2005 at 18:39 +0200 Tagged with

After having quite a stresful day on Sunday getting to Amsterdam monday in fact was quite relaxing. I toured a little bit through the town noticing that the city got a little bit smaller since my last visit ;) Since there was only one event in the evening I just went into the Krasnapolsky hotel where the con is held to get my package and then walk a little bit around. I also took the opportunity to do a little bit reconnaissance to find a fast way to get to Rembrandtplein in the afternoon to meet with Stefan. Well, 10 minutes to get there from the con-hotel IMO isn't really bad ;)

  • Sony still treating European gamers like 3rd class citizens

Posted on Oct. 14, 2005 at 01:57 +0200 Tagged with

According to this article on boomtown European gamers will have to wait until 2006 for version 2.5 of the PSP firmware. Not that it's all that critical for me to get this update but it's IMO still quite annoying. First we had to wait for many months to get the European version of the PSP and now also the software updates are delayed. I think it would at least be nice to get a plausible reason for the delays :(

Today I had the chance to get my hands on a demo version of SSX On Tour and Need For Speed: Most Wanted for the Playstation 2 and while I've currently quite a lot of work and a lot of problem with my PC hardware I still got around giving it at least SSX a try :)

  • Yahoo! launching a podcast service: A short comment ;)

Posted on Oct. 11, 2005 at 06:24 +0200 Tagged with

While I think it's good that podcasting becomes more and more mainstream and Yahoo! trying to get into every market available out there, sometimes I still wonder, what ideas some companies have. First of all: It seems like you have to be a registered Yahoo! user when you want to download a podcast. I wouldn't see any problem with this, if the podcasts would belong to Yahoo! and wouldn't just be redirects to the original files like it's for example the case with the "The HotSpot" podcasts by Gamespot. They even display the link to the original file when you want to listen to that file, but clicking redirects you to a nice login form, not on Gamespot but on Yahoo!.
