Rebooted
First of all I want to apologize. This wasn't really planed and this design basically happened yesterday and the night before yesterday. But more about this later.

First of all, what is new:
- Well, as you can see zerokspot.com has become quite dark. I was heavily inspired by various sites include discoapp.com to finally try a dark/near-black design.
- The sidebar is now basically optional and can be toggled using the "Sidebar" link in the menubar. This only works (and the links only appears) when you JavaScript enabled.

Now again with photos

Quite some time ago I used images such as this as the banner for zeroKspot. Well, actually not really like this one since they all that that snow/ice/cold theme. With this redesign of zeroKspot I want to return to this habit and put some of my photos up here once again and where possible give them some seasonal style :-)

About this picture: I took this one yesterday (Halloween) right before riding home from the University.

Migrating custom node type modules
Today I finally started porting the modules I had written for zerokspot.com from Drupal 4.7 to 5.0. So far everything has worked out just fine apart from one little thing:

I added the modulename.info file to my book review module and there it was in the admin panel. Everything's great. Then I wanted to create a new node with this type and noticed (1) that it doesn't appear in the main listing but only in the navigation sidebar and (2) that when I try to submit the new node, I get an error similar to this one:

Some suggestions for Disco

I've now used Disco for about 3 burns (more than I've done in my whole first year as a Mac user) and so far I really like it. It's simply a nice and task specific application with drag'n drop. Just the kind of application I like the most.

For the most part, you wouldn't notice that Disco has just entered the public beta phase. But there are a few places where it's more than obvious. For example, there is no help system, no scripting support and when it comes to file management before hitting the "Burn" button there are also a few things missing.

On my way to port some more ...

As I've written on Thursday, I've started porting the custom modules I've written for zerokspot.com in order to move ASAP over to Drupal 5.0 as soon as there is an RC out there. My main motivation behind this is the integration of jQuery into Drupal core, which should make some of the hacks I had to perform quite obsolete :)

To make this transition possible I also had to one "foreign" modules which are still <= 4.7 only in the Drupal repository. I guess when I'm done with all that, quite a few will have also entered this list. Probably the biggest fish in the pond will be the Akismet module which I'll probably not dare to touch :-) I just hope that Markus finds some time updating it before RC1 hits or at least before Drupal 5.0 final is released :)

Download right into the Finder

Well, no real story behind this. The motivation just came from the need to combine downloading dl.tv episodes and drag'n dropping them from Finder to Disco ;-) ). So I wrote a little script that would download me a file right into the current folder in the front most Finder window.

Apple on (my) Campus

Just received an e-mail on the students mailing list that today and on Thursday Apple on Campus will visit the University of Klagenfurt. This means a 12% discount on products like the MacMini or the MacPro and 8% on peripherals. Since I'm today all day on the University I guess I will find the time to visit their booth ;-) Now I just hope, that also people who already used up their student discount for this year get this AoC discount.

Might be a good opportunity to get a Mighty Mouse, a MacMini or a an iMac ;-) My PowerBook is still working.

Explicitly splitting long lines in TextMate

Sometimes, when you're just in the flow of typing text (like for a paper) you might forget about some of the personal rules you set up on how you want your textfiles formated. I, for example, prefer it, when the length of each line isn't above 78 characters. I don't really want this an automatic method for formating source code files, but at least for some LaTeX/reST/Markdown texts this would be nice. But while TextMate offers a small command in the "Text" menu to unwrap paragraphs, I didn't find anything for actually splitting (and not just softwrapping) long lines.

Ancient plugs and PVRs ;-)

In case you were wondering, why this photo showed up on my Flickr page: For quite some time I was having an eye on the EyeTV product series by Elgato. OK, I already have a TV card .... but only lying around here somewhere simply because I could never get it to work properly with my Linux machine.

Funny license sections. Today? The del.icio.us Firefox extension

For the last couple of days I'm now using Del.icou.us exclusively for managing my bookmarks thanks to the new and improved Del.icio.us extension directly by Yahoo! which is available on the Firefox Add-ons page. For now I'm quite happy with it since I only had a handful of bookmarks outside of Del.icio.us anyway ;-)
