  • OmniGraffle 5.0 released

    Posted on March 6, 2008 at 08:15 +0100 Tagged with , , ,

Sweet, yesterday night, right before I actually wanted to get some sleep, the OmniGroup released version 5.0 of their great diagram tool OmniGraffle. Back when they first announced the first beta, they said this:

As for pricing, any OmniGraffle 4 purchases made on or after October 31 will receive a free upgrade to OmniGraffle 5 when it ships in early 2008.

    OmniGroup

So I tried right away to run OmniGraffle 5.0 with my old license key (which I bought on 11/19/2007) just to get a nice error message telling me, that the key only works for OmniGraffle 4.x. I emailed sales right away ... And also got an answer right away :-) According to the friendly person at the other end of the tubes, OmniGroup would start sending out update licenses later that day.

  • Favorite Leopard Features so far

I've only been using Leopard for a couple of days now (since I wasn't all that motivated to get it before my MacBook arrived) but I've already found some new stuff that I actually really enjoy...

  • Mozilla Prism ... and Spaces?

    Posted on Oct. 26, 2007 at 23:53 +0200 Tagged with , , , ,

Yesterday Mozilla Labs released the first public version of their AIR competitor called "Prism" and my enthusiasm didn't climb about the "whatever"-level. But today I took a look the announcement again and thought about how this could be perfect solution for one of my problems I was about to face with Spaces.

  • Omni Group getting ready for Leopard

For years OmniApps have been among of the most recommended apps for MacOSX users and so quite a few people probably asked the support staff one and the same question over and over again: Will Omni* work on Leopard?

  • Learning time of the year

    Posted on Aug. 4, 2007 at 21:05 +0200 Tagged with , , , ,

Summer-time is learning-time for me. Every holiday-season I take the time to try something new, to learn new techniques etc. in order to have more options available to solve future problems. This year I want to take a sneak peak at Perl, Haskell and once again try to write some GUI application in Objective-C with Cocoa.

  • Some software infrastructure changes

    Posted on June 28, 2007 at 02:05 +0200 Tagged with , , , , , , ,

After quite some time (and probably right before I have to send my Powerbook in for some repairs) I decided I wanted to have something new again, so I first of all thought that my current software management for things like Gimp, Python and Ruby is a complete mess.

  • Plans for the summer: Getting into Cocoa

    Posted on April 30, 2007 at 13:09 +0200 Tagged with , ,

For the last couple of months, or to be honest since I got my Powerbook, I wanted to get into development on Macs for Macs. So I've been playing around with Objective-C for example to integrate one of my scripts with Safari and things like that.

This summer I finally want to take the time to do something with Cocoa and GUIs and am therefor looking for some good books about this topic as addition to the articles available on Apple's developer site.

  • Download right into the Finder

    Posted on Nov. 5, 2006 at 23:15 +0100 Tagged with , , , , ,

Well, no real story behind this. The motivation just came from the need to combine downloading dl.tv episodes and drag'n dropping them from Finder to Disco ;-) ). So I wrote a little script that would download me a file right into the current folder in the front most Finder window.

  • Some suggestions for Disco

    Posted on Nov. 3, 2006 at 00:23 +0100 Tagged with , , ,

Disco.app is sorting files in mysterious ways

I've now used Disco for about 3 burns (more than I've done in my whole first year as a Mac user) and so far I really like it. It's simply a nice and task specific application with drag'n drop. Just the kind of application I like the most.

For the most part, you wouldn't notice that Disco has just entered the public beta phase. But there are a few places where it's more than obvious. For example, there is no help system, no scripting support and when it comes to file management before hitting the "Burn" button there are also a few things missing.

  • Disco public beta released

Everybody who has a Mac knows, that burning DVDs/CDs works out of the box if you have a superdrive in your favorite box. But at least for me the whole process wasn't really intuitive esp. with when you're working with re-writable media where you have to first erase the whole thing using the Disk utilities . I'm also not really a big fan of the whole Burning folder idea (although it is great, that it automatically works with symbolic links). If I want to keep a copy of what I burned on my harddisk, I use ISO files ;-)
