  • Gamespot and the way to unsubscribe ...

    Posted on Aug. 10, 2006 at 22:38 +0200 Tagged with ,

Today I received a mail vom Gamespot telling me, that my Total Access account will be renewed in one month (I had previously set my account to auto-renew every year). Since I was no longer interested into having this account I went looking for a way to unsubscribe which wasn't all that complicated thanks to their quite nice FAQ. It's actually a very simple process: Hit a link and confirm the procedure.

Then a message appears telling me, that I will be able to use all my Total Access privileges until the end of my original subscription-year. So far so nice, there are just two problems, though.

  • Too much salt in the CSS soup

One of the funniest things I've ever seen: On Malarkey there was just a few days ago a small game of CSS (to convince John C. Dvorak of the power of CSS) were the author simply tells, what HTML elements can be styled within a stylesheet and then leaves it to commenters to come up with the actual definitions. An additional rule was that there was only one stylesheet, so each comment has to be based on the previous ones.

  • Bulletproof Web Design

    Posted on Feb. 4, 2006 at 00:00 +0100 Tagged with , , ,

Honestly, it was more a spontanuous idea to get this book somewhen around Christmas 2005 but judging from my previous experience with Dan Cederholm's books I thought it couldn't hurt also reading his newest guide through the deep and vivid jungle of CSS based web design. Before I get to the main part of the review, I want to talk a little bit about how I got this book first:

Normally I buy all my books on amazon.de simply because it's fast, easy and cheap. First of all I went to the .com site (don't ask me why) and found out that they want something around 22$ for it. Sure I said and made myself and my bank account ready for a small investment. Since toll sucks I went to .de and ... nearly fell from my chair: 47.90EUR!!! Ok, so I went to the website of a local bookstore and was quite suprised when I saw the same book for "only" 39.60EUR. Still about twice as expensive as on amazon.com but since I would pay nearly the other half thanks to toll and would have to wait a few weeks I asked my mom to drop by there and get my a copy (was at work at that time). Can someone please explain to me, why I have to pay twice as much for the same book here compared to what it costs on the other side of the ocean (the left one)?

  • Web Standards Solutions: The Markup and Style Handbook

Book coverWeb Standards Solutions is , as the name already indicates a solution oriented webdesign book. I'm currently around page 80 and noticed no webstandards-zealoting ;-) Not that I'd mind though.
