Notes

Here you can find notes about things I discover or learn but are not (yet) worth a full-length post.

Why are more people dying of this disease in the United States than in anywhere else in the world? Because we live in a broken country, with a broken health care system. Because even though people of all races and backgrounds are suffering, the disease in the United States has hit black and brown and Indigenous people the hardest, and we are seen as expendable.

I wonder how many people have died not necessarily because of the virus but because this country failed them and left them to fend for themselves. That is the grief for me now, that is the guilt and the rage.

Completely missed that Cory Doctorow has a new book on the horizon, scheduled to be released on 12 October. The third instalment of the “Little Brother” also is not YA:

It’s a book about rationalization and redemption: how good people talk themselves into doing bad things, and what it takes to bring them back from the brink. I’m incredibly proud of it.

I should really find the time to read the first two books of the series before that, despite them being YA 😅

Replying to Costs to run this blog (jlelse.blog…)

~5€ per month is awesome! Didn’t know that Cloudflare also had a DNS offering 🙂

To be fair, I could probably move away from Spaces in favour of something like S3 or Google Cloud Storage but I really like the usability of pretty much everything that DigitalOcean provides 😅 Also: the 6$ for Spaces is completely optional right now. I should have enough disk space available on the VPS but I wanted to plan ahead a bit so that I don’t have to move everything once I start putting series amounts of photos on there 🤣
